The Study Of New Words And New Meanings Of Disyllabic Words In BaoPuZiWaiPian

BaoPuZiWaiPian is an important book about Confucianism,written by Ge Hong in Jin Dynasty.Ge Hong began to write it in the first year of Tai-An of Jin-Hui-Di(302A.D.).He kept on writing for more than ten years, and completed it in the first year of Jian-Wu of Jin-Yuan-Di(317A.D.).There are fifty pieces in it. Its content includes the real affairs of the world. From the lexical aspect departure, this paper focuses on the systematic study of new words and new meanings of disyllabic words in BaoPuZiWaiPian,which are judged by Great Chinese Dictionary.This paper consists of five chapters.The first chapter of the paper introduce the writer GeHong and all his life, BaoPuZiWaiPian's content and the edition,as well as the present situation, content, method, value of research on BaoPuZiWaiPian.The second chapter of the paper refer to the judgement of disyllabic words. We put forward the meaning standards as a primary method,and form standards as a subsidiary method, meanwhile consider the frequency standards and relevant reference book collected.The third chapter is the main chapter in this paper. There are 1253 new words and new meanings of disyllabic words in BaoPuZiWaiPian, so this section just focuses on the systematic study of these new words and new meanings,which are judged by Great Chinese Dictionary. In addition, we divide these new words into three parts:"new words which have been first cited in Great Chinese Dictionary"(total 564); "new words which have been latter cited in Great Chinese Dictionary" (total 139) and"new words which have not been cited in Great Chinese Dictionary" (total 83).We also divide new meanings into three parts:"new meanings which have been first cited in Great Chinese Dictionary" (total 383); "new meanings which have been latter cited in Great Chinese Dictionary" (total 57)and"new meanings which have not been cited in Great Chinese Dictionary" (total 27). In the end of the paper, we list all the words in addendums. The fourth chapter of paper from different aspect to find the reason of appearance of the new words and new meanings. The appearance of these new words and new meanings under the influence of social customs, buddhism, taoism, talents selection institution, medicine, personal factors, astronomy and calendar.The fifth chapter is the conclusion of this paper. Through the analysis and research of new words and new meanings of disyllabic words(total 1253) in BaoPuZiWaiPian, We found it has the characteristics of three aspects:Temporal spirit.It reflects the society, life and language outlook of Jin Dynasty Originality. Part of new words and new meanings derived from the author's innovation spirit; Normalization. Compared with BaoPuZiNeiPian, BaoPuZiWaiPian shows more colour of written language.Lots of new words and new meanings of disyllabic words in BaoPuZiWaiPian provide linguistic data resources for the research of Chinese vocabulary history and Chinese history, and have certain reference function for the revise of Great Chinese Dictionary.
