A Preliminary Study On The Rock Painting In Tibet

Ancient rock art that is a worldwide historical remains with universal significance, were also found in China. Archaeologists discovered three rock art sites on September 1985 in Ritu County for the first time in Tibet, which supply a gap in the archaeology of rock art in Tibet. From then on, these discovery had drew the scholar's attention and some special studies came out, which provided fundamental materials to acquaint my research in Tibetan rock art. Meanwhile, I notice that most scholars considered the regional characteristic of Tibetan rock art as "Northern China system" rock art. In Tibet, there is 44% of rock painting. On the other sides, the experts didn't describe about less rock painting in the "Northern China system". Based on the past approaches and related materials that were published, my paper will focus on the Tibetan rock painting. Through the observation of Tibetan rock painting, it provides new perspectives for its studies, and then enriches our recognition of the ancient culture in Tibet Plateau.This essay firstly summarizes the discoveries of Tibetan rock art and recently studies, which is the groundwork of this paper. Then to define cultural characteristic of the Tibetan rock painting, it analyzes its stereotype, distribution, reserving forms, technique of manufacture and image. On this basis, I initially probe into rock painting's chronology, its aboriginal religion, the significance of regional culture and other aspects.
