The ancient worshiped the celestial bodies very much therefore created many fairy tales including the moon. The thesis consists of five parts for the original myth and belief on the moon. The first part contains the survey on the primary background of the worship on the moon by the ancient men. It can be inferred from the images and meanings of the character "月" that ancient men treat the moon as mystery for the lunar change and they considered that the moon hold the mysterious strength of regeneration. The second part is the detailed analysis of several typical fairy stories about the moon, such as the stories of its birth, the toad in the moon, and the goddess in the moon with the analysis on the meaning of the myths. The third part is some application of the lunar change as divinatory symbol for weather forecast, political affairs and personnel matters therefore the moon is embodied the symbolized meaning. The fourth part is the introduction about the time, the directions, and the oblations of the sacrificial ceremony on the moon. The last part mainly studies Mid-autumn Festival on the lunar Aug 15th , including the origin and various folk customs on traditional holidays.
