With the cultural turn in the translation studies, translation studies escaped the rule of linguistic approaches. Translation, as a purposeful activity, is situated in a big cultural environment and viewed as the carrier of culture. Meanwhile, the subject of translation studies is also in the transitional period of transferring from source text orientation to target text orientation. Translation, literary translation in particular, is a rather complicated transforming process. According to the polysystem theory of Even-Zohar, literary translation could be regarded as the transfer between systems, thus the translated text represents the relationship between the source system and target system.Children's literature, as an indispensable component of literature, possesses a peripheral position in the literary system. Deeply influenced by the peripheral position, the translation of children's literature is confined by various factors inside and outside the literary system. Meanwhile, translation skills are still confined by the relationship between the position of the source system and the target system in the whole world literary system. This thesis aims at making a descriptive study on the manipulations of translators on the translated text of children's literature in order to make it acceptable under the influence of systematic factors inside the literary system. With the help and guidance of polysystem theory and rewriting theory of Lefevere, four aspects of translators' manipulations on children's literature translation are discussed: the manipulations on integrality of the text, on complexity of the translated text, the ideological and evaluative adaptation as well as manipulations on style.
