Illusory Coincidence And Authentic Discord

The relations of the West Allies during the Second Berlin Crisis are both of coincidence and discord, and the latter is their dominant character. They haven't accepted the note which like ultimatum of USSR and GDR conformably, and have no patience with USSR change the formative Cold War situation wantonly, let alone threaten their right and interest in West Berlin. Their legal basis is that Potsdam Agreement and the German unconditional surrender authorized them the right to keep existence in West Berlin. In appearance, USA, UK and France gave appropriate support to FRG, which was depended on them excessively. They claimed to commitment and take risks for West Berlin in words. However, the true is that the allies want to safeguard their own right and interest by the alliance in the background of Cold War, because they worried that USSR and GDR take uncertain action to jeopardize their own interest, therefore, the West Allies kept solidarity in appearance. Substantively, this kind of solidarity lack of stable basis, each ally draws up its countermeasure according to its national interest and national strategy, national individualism and pragmatic diplomacy were embodied obviously in this crisis, the West Allies hadn't realized absolute solidarity. By contraries, there were bilateral discord and multilateral discord among the West Allies. They harmonized their standpoint from beginning to end, but hadn't abandoned their disagreement and got resultful coincidence. The seeming solidarity couldn't cover the inconsistent essential. Therefore, the relations of the West Allies during the Second Berlin Crisis should be defined as the paradoxical relations which are both illusory coincidence and authentic discord, and the latter is their dominant character.
