Houcun was a famous poet of Ci in the late South Song. Through the literary review, the writer of this paper found that the previous studies on Houcun's compositions and thoughts of Ci were unsystematic. A representative poet as he was in his age, it is necessary and worthful to go on an integrated and systematic research on his writing and thoughts of Ci.In Houcun's time, the South Song was in a tense situation with Jin and Yuan in turn politicially, and was ruled by the legalized official thoughts of Neo-Confucianism in culture. Returning to classics and respecting Ci was the mainstream in literature. Most of the works composed in civil community were to be sung. In light of the above background, the writer of this paper is about to entirely study Houcun's writing and thoughts of Ci, and then analyze the relation between his writing of Ci and his thoughts of Ci .At the end of this thesis, the writer of this paper carries on a study on the development of Ci in the late South Song.Houcun's writing of Ci seemed very special. His writing activities of Ci lasted as long as more than fifty years. Most of His works of Ci were written in his fifties. So his writing climax was in his eld time. Houcun had 149 works of Ci written for the birthday, things and festivals. Among them, 44 works of Ci were written for his own birthday, and the other 44 for other persons'birthday. Houcun's works of Ci for his own birthday showed us his life and mental state in his last thirty years. In these works, he chose to retire to private life to release his wrath. In this way, he wanted to find new value of the life. The works of Ci for other persons'birthday gave wishes to others. They were very easy to flatter others. So were Houcun's works of this kind. Houcun wrote many works of Ci for his own or others'birthday. It was not unusual, for many poets of Ci in South Song often wrote works of Ci for birthday use. Houcun had thirty-nine works of Ci written for things. They were not only written for things, but for something more. They contained the writer's intense attachment to the former-town. These works could move every reader. Different from his other works, the style of Houcun's works of Ci for things was light and fresh.
