Taiwan is a province of China. The fact that it became a problem has relation to the civil war waged by Kuomintang. The more important, however, is the result of USA's interference with China's civil war. Taiwan is the last territory, which China's War of Liberation failed to liberate. It dissociates from China's main land and it is under the protection of USA. This thesis is based on the current achievements of research. It concentrates on the stage from The Cairo Declaration in 1943 to the end of the Korea War in 1953, and investigates the process and origins of the formation of Taiwan problem, discusses USA's standpoint of Taiwan problem, from correct to incorrect, from respecting the historical facts to disregarding them, analyses the deep causes of its evolution.This thesis is divided into four chapters besides the foreword and the conclusion.Chapter 1: The policy of nonentanglement adopted by the U.S toward Taiwan.After the Sino-Japanese War of 1894-1895, Taiwan was set up a separatist regime by force of arms of Japan. When the War of Resistance against Japan broke out, Chinese government thus made it a paramount object to reoccupy it. The U.S had long been coveting at Taiwan's critical strategic position and abundant resources. But because of the existing of its strategy of"Europe in first consideration and Asia second", the U.S finally made a decision to support the Taiwan's homecoming to the mainland in view of the overwhelming performance of Chinese people in opposing Japan's army. Thereby Cairo Declaration signed by China, the United States and Britain in Dec. 1943 and Potsdam Proclamation in July 1945 legally affirmed the returning of Taiwan and Pescadores to China. And on Oct. 25 1945, Chinese government announced that Taiwan and Pescadores had officially reunited to China's territory. Thus Taiwan and Pescadores renewed to be a connatural part of China not only in law but also in actual fact. The U.S government had basically adopted the nonetanglement policy after Taiwan's...
