1 Foreword1.2 The scope, theory and method of the contrastTopic is an important concept in Chinese and Korean. Comparing to Korean, the relationship between the topic and subject in Chinese had more serious disagreements. This article does contrastive studies on the topic between Chinese and Korean by approach of functional grammar and structuralism method.1.3 Background of the research2.2.1 Studies on Chinese topicSince the first researcher Zhao Yuanren put forward the studies on Chinese topic, the domestic arguments about the subject and topic were divided into three groups: some researcher thought that there was no subject in Chinese grammar and in fact the subject they called was the topic; the second group insisted that the subject belongs to the grammar system while the topic belongs to the pragmatic system, and there wasn't any opposite relationship between each other, which is applicable to any language; the last group thought that both the subject and the topic belonged to grammar system, but they were different syntactic component independently.Xu Jie figured out that the topic in a basic syntactic structure didn't have an independent status, and the structure of the topic was double-subject structure, at the same time the topic itself was just a functional property of some syntactic component.
