The "30 September Affair" In Indonesia And Policies Of The United States

Abstract: Indonesia is located in Pacific Ocean and the Indian Ocean, Southeast Asian peninsula and traffic main artery of Australia. There are strategic materials such as abundant tin, petroleum and natural gas within the territory of it. Therefore, the U.S. has been regarding Indonesia as an important ring on the Asian defense chain and greatly paid attention to Indonesia in the cold war battlefield of Asia, Southeast Asia.From September 30, 1965 to March 11, 1966, Indonesian "30 September Affair" is in the Indonesian contemporary history turning point, and also a major event in the international history after World War II. As to the "30 September Event" with American role in it, the domestic and international academia always has a dispute. This article rests on the newest archive materials, the achievement that forefathers studied, tries hard to objectively and comprehensively analyze it, in the hope of verifying the inside truth of this event, and has a limited view of American covert action and its function during the cold war.The full text is made up of preface, the main text and conclusion, among them the main text is divided into four parts together.The first part, describes change of Indonesian domestic situation before the "30 September Affair", including political, economical and diplomatic situation. Politically one was at the beginning and the intermediate stage of the 50's, political parties stood in great numbers, not maturely caused the political situation to be unstable. Under the President Sukarno's protection, the Indonesian communist party had been developed gradually and became the first major party with more than 3 million Party members by the middle period of the 60's; Second, the army intervened politics day by day seriously. Under the political pattern of three sides' delicate equilibrium that was composed by president Sukarno, the army and Indonesian communist party, the army and Indonesian communist party struggled with both open and secret means. The complicated political struggle led Indonesian economy to worsen continuously. In order to shift the political struggle in the country, especially the pressure of the economic crisis, Indonesia was successively involved in the West Irian crisis and confrontation with Malaysia in the diplomacy.
