Congo was the colony of Belgium. When it independed in 1964,it changed its name into the republic of Congo, two years later ,it changed the name of capital into Kinshasa. In 1971, the republic of Congo changed its name to Zaire, and in 1997, its name returned to the republic of Congo until now. Congo is an important strategical country in Africa, It lie in the middle of Africa, it is called the heart of Africa. One strategist had said:" Africa is a pistol, Zaire is the trigger". Because its importance in strategy and resources, after the second world war, the United States expand its influence through investment and granting loan to it.After the Second World War, after Congo suffered a long struggle, it independed in 1964. But the Belgium did not want to give up Congo, and instigated Katanga that is the most important province of Congo to separate. All of this led to the crisis of Congo. When the Prim Lumumba and the President Kasavubu of Congo had asked the U.N. to help, The Congo Crisis had been seriously. Because the United States intervened the crisis under the banner of the U.N.With the development of the crisis, the leaders of Congo had been closed to the U.S.S.R., the government of the United States believed the U.S.S.R. had wanted to exert influence in Congo and Africa. In order to hold up the influence of U.S.S.R., the United States decided to intervene the resolve of the Congo Crisis.The purpose of the thesis is to analyze generally the policy of the US to the Congo Crisis by studying recent declassified archives of the United States. The thesis is made of the preface and the main body.The preface introduces the academic research of the project home and abroad, the purpose and the significance of the study. The main body is divided into four parts.The first part describes the occurrence and the cource of the crisis. After the Second World War, many countries in Asia and Africa had suffered the movement of national liberation. Congo suffered long struggle and gained independence in 1960.But Belgium did not give up Congo, at last Congo crisis broke. After the leaders of Congo asked to the U.N., the U.N. had done nothing on resolving Congo crisis. So the leaders of Congo have been close to the U.S.S.R., government of the United States believed the U.S.S.R. had wanted to exert influence in Congo and Africa. In order to hold up the U.S.S.R., the United States decided to intervene the resolve of the Congo Crisis.
