According to the review of previous researches on mental state, analysis of open-ended measures, this study puts forward its own theoretical hypothesis on mental state. And a formal questionnaire of students' mental state in the transitional period from Junior college to regular university is formed after primary test and relevant analysis .The present study investigated mental state characters of 1,150 students. The result suggests that:(1) The questionnaire has a good reliability and validity. The factor analysis also reveals that the mental state of these students consists of five aspects: ability-achievement mental state;hardship-vacuity mental state;process-aim mental state;study-exam anxiety mental state and advance to regular university-opportunity mental state. This constitution corresponds to my theoretical hypothesis.(2) Among these school students who are in the transitional period, the most obvious mental state they show is the advance to regular university -opportunity mental state, then the ability-achievement mental state, study-exam anxiety mental state, hardship-vacuity mental state and at last the process-aim mental state.(3) There is a noticeable difference between the male students and the female students in the ability-achievement mental state, the process-aim mental state and the total score of the questionnaire. As for the other dimensions there is no such noticeable difference.(4) The score of the ability-achievement mental state of the art students is noticeably lower than the science students, but noticeably higher in thehardship-vacuity mental state. There is no obvious difference in the other dimensions and in the total score.(5) In the comparison of the mental states of the different grades of these students in the transitional period, the junior students' score much higher than the freshmen and the sophomores in the process-aim mental state. And in the study-exam anxiety mental state, the freshmen is much lower than the sophomores and the junior students is also much lower than the sophomores. In advance to regular university -opportunity mental state, the freshmen is much higher than the sophomores;the freshmen and sophomores are much higher than the junior students and the senior students. There is no noticable difference between the juniors and seniors.(6) In the comparison of the mental states on the diploma of these students, there is no noticeable difference between the junior college students and the undergraduates.
