As a tourism country, China enjoys a long history of civilization and picturesque natural scenery, which have attracted more and more tourists from home and abroad. The vast territory and abundant resources, and the natural, cultural and historic landscapes have always earned loud applauses from the tourists. With the rapid increase of intercultural activities between different countries, transnational tourism has become one big part of bringing in economic profits, as well as an important part of promoting intercultural communication. In order to attract more foreign tourists and introduce Chinese culture to them, we have to develop our transnational tourism, which necessarily needs the assistance of tourism translation. Tourism translation is kind of intercultural translation and intercultural communication. It is a process of introducing domestic tourism resources and domestic culture to foreign readers, who are potential transnational tourists. In the current world with rapid economic growth, tourism has become an important industry in China by bringing in economic profits. As an essential factor for promoting the development of tourism industry, tourism translation has attracted more and more attention from both the tourism circle and translation circle. Tourism translation belongs to the field of applied translation, which may deal with advertising texts, literary descriptions, poetry, and cultural images, and may cover the areas of society, economy, politics, education, religion and so on. The complexity of tourism translation therefore results in the high difficulty in tourism translation.Based on the analysis of the texts of tourism translation, the thesis discusses tourism translation under the guidance of the multi-complementary principle or the theory of pluralistic translation standards and their complementality (as named by Prof. Gu Zhengkun).
