Based on the idea of irrationalism in philosophy, this paper review the horizontal relationship between works and artists in the modern west in broadem cultural context, and then to explore the modern western painting, from the "irrational" dimension has been ignored by the traditional art history.Chapter I, Make clear the relevant conceptions of rational and irrational, and put aside the bondage of concepts of various genres in western art history, seize the clew "irrational", to analyze the modern western painting rebel rational. Chapter II, Breakthrough the limitations of traditional art theory on modern western painting purely focus on techniques, highlight the relationship between dissimilation, cleavage in subconscious mind of artist and " distortion "in paintings. Chapter III, focusing on the revelation of modern western painting how to express the " fantastic " of the existence of people and world, in which have a new cognize on the analysis of dream in works. Chapter IV, Focused on the exploration of inner irrational cause of the representation of "evil" in modern western painting, thus detecting implied profound sense of the reversion of humanity in it.
