The Influence Of "end Of The Century" Irrationalism On Expressionist Music

In 20 th century,there was dramatic change for music,and different styles and genres came one after another,which formed into diverse development trend.As one of the genres of them,in addition to deep social factor and change of music ontology,the production of expressionism music was also influenced by the philosophical trend of irrationalism since 19 th century.Since the middle of 19 th century,there were universally dissatisfaction and rebellious mood to reality in European intelligentsia,and besides,in the pursuit of individual spiritual freedom,they also came to the extreme.The philosophical trend of irrationalism composed by various philosophy genres is the best reflection to to the thoughts,moods,and concepts in Europe at that time,the basic feature of it is to look down upon all things of traditional ration,while highlight the subjective feeling.The influence of this philosophy though is so wild,since the end of 19 th century,it has been expanded to the fields of literature and art gradually,while in this term,the basic feature of expressionism music complements each other with the philosophical trend of irrationalism,the ideology and composition techniques of composers have evolved dramatically,they also look down upon all things of tradition,but highlight subjective feelings and the inner mind of people.It can be said that expressionism music is the best presentation of the philosophical trend of irrationalism in the field of art.In this thesis,it starts from the perspective of irrationalism,by means of the analysis on the script “Lulu”,which is the mature twelve-tone opera by expressionism composer,Berg,and music ontology,it can express the irrationalism feature of this world,and also the aesthetic connotation in it with this feature.There are introduction,three chapters,and conclusion of this thesis.In the first chapter,it mainly illustrates the definition of irrationalism,background,and philosophical view,which discusses the change of music in the aspects of ideology and composition techniques under the trend of ideology and composition techniques,which become more clear by the composer of expressionism.In the second chapter,it analyzes the expression of irrationalism in the expressionism opera “Lulu”from internal and external performance.As to internal performance,it mainly gives analysis on the irrationalism feature in this opera,while as to external performance,it mainly analyzes the architectural feature of music.In the third chapter,it further discusses the aesthetic connotation in this opera “Lulu”,which has irrationalism feature.
