The thesis focus on the border officers' Xingsai in Han dynasty by the historical literature and the bamboo slips and wooden tablets which have been discovered in Juyan.There are three chapters of the article. The first chapter is the preface, which explain the purpose of the thesis and retrospect the study about the thesis before. The article is about the studying of border defense, especially about the border officer in Han dynasty. The border officers were the blazer in border exploiting and disseminating the advanced culture. The border officers could also be seen the bridge between Han dynasty and the minority. So it is very significant for scholars to study. There are two main reasons why the article focuses on the border officers in Juyan in Han dynasty: Firstly, Juyan area was the center in border defense in northern China. Secondly, since last century with the development of the archaeology, there are sufficient bamboo slips and wooden tablets for scholars to study.During 1972 to 1974, the archaeologist discovered a famous slip in new unearth slips in Juyan. The slip was named "hou-shi-guang-de-zuo-bu-xun-xing-bu ", which is the record about all kinds of defects in six torch forts in Jiaqu sector. Scholars began to pay attention to the border officers' Xingsai after the discovery of the slip. Xingsai means inspection the border defense. The border officers inspected regularly, looked for negligence in border defense and rectified the drawback. The article based on the great progress in studying about Xingsai and the classification about the bamboo slips and wooden tablets.The second chapter is the overview about the border defense in Han dynasty. There were defensive buildings named "sai-zhang-ting-sui" located in the border, which constructed a whole set of complete border military defense systems. Sai means the Great Wall building in Qin and Han Dynasty. Zhang, which is the mini-castle, and Tingsui, which is the torch fort, were all attached to the Great Wall. The border officers of the Han Dynasty could be divided into two major types: One was the system regarded Taishou as the center of the border defense. Taishou was responsible for the all affairs and Duwei was responsible for the military. The other was the Chijie officers including protecting Qiang captain, Xiongnu ambassador and protect Wuhuan captain, which served as a diplomatic officers appeared in the Western Han dynasty, developed into the fixed system by the Eastern Han dynasty.The third chapter concentrate on demonstrating the system of border officer' Xingsai which was divided into five segments: the documents of Xingsai, the border officers in charge of Xingsai, the content of Xingsai, the examination of Xingsai and the significance of Xingsai, make every effort to make the system of Xingsai to be represented completely.There are good deals of record in the bamboo slips and wooden tablets discovered in Juyan can supplement the absence of the historical literature. The government draw up various very detailed regulations about the border officer' Xingsai in Han Dynasty, the border officer must have the particular certificate to inspect the border defence and must reported all sorts of problems in torch forts and then demanded to correct.
