Chinese vocational college students are a special kind of students, who are different from the ordinary university students. They are required to be practical workers instead of the academic ones. In the aspect of English study, the Ministry of Education emphasized that the English teachers should teach the essential English knowledge and the basic skills to the vocational college students; in the meantime, the teachers should foster their ability of practically using English to communicate. That is to say, the vocational college English should give prominence to the students' oral language. But actually the vocational college students are usually of low oral language proficiency and they don't have positive attitude toward speaking English. This makes the English teachers feel anxious and they are eager to change this condition. But the traditional PPP lessons can't help.In recent years, task-based language teaching (TBLT) has aroused extensive attention and the researchers have done many researches on it. Some of the researches are on the effectiveness of the approach on various aspects of English study. But none of the researches is on whether this is an effective approach to improve the Chinese vocational college students' oral language. Under this circumstance, the author would like to do this research to find out the effectiveness of using TBLT to improve the vocational college students' oral language and whether this approach can help the students form more positive attitude toward speaking English than the traditional PPP approach.The result of the research shows that task-based language teaching can help the...
