The aim of teaching English is mainly to cultivate the learners' comprehensive communicative ability, not limited on the written ability. The new English curriculum by China's Ministry of Education on Higher Vocational College proposes that this ability should be fostered in the present teaching procedure. However, it seems that the learners' communicative ability still falls behind, though the students have learned English for many years. This paper did a survey about the problem at issue in AnShan Higher Technical Vocational College, trying to find out the causes from the following aspects: learners, teachers, learning environment and the negative effect coming from their mother tongue; in the meanwhile, the characteristic of spoken English is described. The writer advocates a new method of oral English teaching—the Task-Based Teaching Approach, a task as an activity where the target language is used by the learners for a communicative purpose in order to achieve an outcome, the task is designed by the teacher meticulously, the difficulty is suitable for them.This teaching method regards the operated goal as the motivation, see the procedure to finish tasks as learning procedure, regard whether achieve the goal as the teaching result. The learner is the master of the whole activity.The thesis elaborates the application of the Task-Based Teaching Approach in oral learning from six aspects: the definition of Task, the structure of task, the theoretical Background of it,the procedure of Task-Based Teaching Approach and the role of the teacher in it.To use its advantage for reference, the writer practiced the Task-Based Teaching Approach in the school where she works for nine months, she is helped by the book The test and Teaching on English Oral, apply the learner's voice clearness, pronunciation accuracy, intonation and the accuracy on vocabulary for criteria, compare and analyze the experiment result between pre-test and the post-test, then draw a conclusion: the Task-Based Teaching Approach breaks the malady of teacher-centered in class, step out of only grammar interpreting, activates the students'enthusiasm, improves the ability to communicate with each other and the learning efficiency, and achieve the purpose on feeling communication.At last, think of the practical situation on foreign teaching in our country that Task-Based Teaching Approach still stops on the tasted stage, the thesis gives some suggestion in future practices when advocating the new teaching method.
