It is more and more realized that the success of second language acquisition depends largely on the learner him/herself. However, in its strict sense, the learner-centered learning has not been put into practice and it is just limited to some seemingly autonomous activities. Based on Insightful Learning Theory, this thesis aims to find the insightful learning's effects on English learners and the role that a teacher plays during the learners' learning process.Although almost a century has passed since the concept of insight was brought up by Kohler in 1917, it is still a fascinating topic for physiologists and psychologists. However, as an important cognitive theory, it is seldom applied to second language learning. Insightful learning is a cognitive process that learners must carry out a fine observation to perceive the relationship among the problems, actions and circumstances so that they can experience a seemingly sudden understanding and complete this process of configuration, which is called the process of Gestalt. Language is composed by series of rules, but it is not necessary for learners to painstakingly learn these rules.
