The Chinese Characters blong to a ideographic system, and at the beginning of the word formation, "the form on basis of meaning",thus showing a close connection between their form and meaning.Chinese Characters which at the age of ancient writing contained their nature of pictograph,and their conformation-meaning chiefly depended on their shapes,so the information which they carried was easy to be seen.But they which at the age of modern writing did not have the future of pictograph and contained the meaning only,so their conformation-meaning chiefly depended on their ideograms.Chinese Characters also developed the system of note at the process of development to assistant recognizing and memory,and shorted the connection of Chinese Characters and Chinese.Chinese Characters absorbed some forced signs which were not relation to their denoted objects when the process of Chinese formation began,and some ideograms and notes lost their function ceaselessly,becoming signs which were not relation to the whole word.So signal-components and signal words increased incessantly and the Chinese Characters exhibited the trend of signifying.This article puted forword personal points of view aim at the conception of sign and demarcation line between sign,ideogram and note,and chiefly discussed the emergence and developing of sign at ancient writing and mordern writing age,and tried to unveil the trend of signifying frome the fact of signal components and signal words increasing constantly.
