The modern translation studies have generally got rid of the restriction of the traditional concept of translation, and place translator study on an important position. Translatology, as an independent discipline, requires a complete research on itself. The translator is a necessary and the most important core role in the act of translation, which determines that translator study is an important part of translation studies. Anyhow, the theorists haven't reached an agreement on translator study. This thesis intends to discuss about the position and task of the translator in the act of translation from the angle of hermeneutics. According to the theory of hermeneutics, the translator should be the subject of the act of translation. This defines the identity and role of the translator, and returns the translator the original status that he should possess. The subjectivity of the translator is given enough affirmation, which is the necessary conclusion from the role of the translator. Apart from that, the writer of the thesis proves that the subjectivity of the translator should also contain the affectedness of the translator. The process of translation is that of understanding and interpreting the text of the translator, which is the process of fusion of the translator's horizon with that of the original text and the author. The meaning of the text is generated from the dialogue between the translator and the author. Therefore, the process of translation is more reasonable. We can get more complete recognition of these questions if we study them in the framework of hermeneutics. The series of philosophical theories and schools henceforth, such as deconstruction, receptive aesthetics, Habermas' theory of communicative action and so on, are all based on the theory of hermeneutics, and too they advance the development of translation studies.
