This thesis takes a historical and descriptive approach of translation studies, aiming to figure out the influencing factors of source text selection in literary translation. On the basis of Lefevere's framework about the influencing factors of source text selection, the author proposes some revision and complement to it, adds economic one as one of the three major influencing factors, which is verified by the study on the literary translation history of China. Then the author verifies the proposed theoretical framework through a brief review of the evolution of Chinese literary translation. The evolution of translation policy of literary translation in China has experienced a winding course divided into three periods. While in the first two periods, the ideological and poetological concerns remain the main influencing factors on the source text selection, the third period sees a different social situation, with a big change in the status of ideological and economic factors. The case study of the thesis focuses on the third period, where the proposed theoretical framework is applied in the data analysis and summary, providing a detailed report on the status of source text selection of literary translation in that period, and the analysis of the influencing factors, which serves as a persuasive proof for the proposed theoretical framework.
