Among the writers of the present age, Wang Shuo first conveyed the enormous social changes that took place in the switching period of Chinese society, ranging from the structure to the code of behavior, from the system to concepts, and from the modes of production to that of life. In his novels, prose and essays, he conveys a radical ruffian spirit, which, in essence, is the disengaged cultural spirit of the irreconcilability of truth and falsehood.Part one is the analysis of Wang Shuo's novels, prose and essays, which displays the form of ruffian culture. First, through the introduction and analysis of Wang Shuo's sincere statement, the author concludes that his ruffian concept of dallying with culture is essentially great doubt about the traditional cultural concepts, the disdain of all hypocritical idealisms, and a return to the fountainhead of literature. Secondly, through the anatomy of Wanzhu's characters, the author argues that their degeneration is not only the revolt against social order and ethical standard or a wish to break through all the restraints imposed by the society, but also Wang Shuo's rebellious visual angle------a ruffian's angle created by their real state of living. Thirdly, by analyzingWang Shuo's style of teasing, the writer dissertates that the revelry of ruffian words opens, in its nature, a free chapter of words for Wanzhu's outward behavior and the realization of their connotation with many unique virtual context of living and vivid pan-politicalized words of life. Fourthly, through the critical analysis of Wang Shuo's ruffian culture, the author show to us that what his sensible straight criticism really reveals is the liberal cultural spirit which extirpates superstition bravely.Part two is the analysis of the period where politics, economy and culture have overbalanced, and the cultural context where the contemporary ruffian culture has derived.
