Context is the environment of language use. It belongs to the category of Pragmatics. Nowadays, because of the development of linguistics as well as the interrelation and interaction of various disciplines, the applied study of context has related to the field of translation. It is a great progress that today's pragmatic translation theory applies the pragmatic function of language to translation. The theory wisely holds that it is the pragmatic meaning that the translator should seek to provide a faithful target version. Pragmatic translation is the one being conducted to the pragmatic text which focuses on conveying information by using the pragmatic knowledge. It can achieve the pragmatic equivalent effect between the source and the target texts by bringing out the intended meaning of the original. Correct cognition and understanding of source language is the premise for achieving pragmatic equivalent effect in translation. However, the insufficient understanding of the theory leaves far more important factors and significance unproved. This present thesis intends to give a further study on this theory from the perspective of the influence of contextual restriction and interpretation on pragmatic translation.This thesis mainly focuses on the influence of contextual functions on pragmatic translation. In a dynamic standpoint, this paper makes an effort to offer a new perspective of pragmatic translation theory. The new proposal aims at the importance of context analysis in the process of translation, and the influence of context on the meaning understanding and defining. The preceding part traces back the studies on context both in western and eastern fields in the early time to provide a thorough sketch of contextual theory. Then to begin with the definition and the classification of context, it makes a very specific study of the properties and the classification of context in language using. Finally, a description on how to achieve the pragmatic equivalence in pragmatic translation is presented.
