| My dissertation On the Study of the Korean Arirang Phenomenon reveals the rich and unique characteristics of the Arirang phenomenon through series study and research in the fields of Arirang history of South Korea, North Korea and the Korean autonomous district in China, Arirang music (including Arirang lyrics) as well as the Arirang cultural phenomenon.The author responds to the following questions through researching the Arirang and the Arirang phenomenon:1. When and under what social and historical circumstances was Arirang promoted to the supreme position of nationality carol and nationality spirit?2. Why did Arirang prevail for such a long time and has never been forgotten? (Arirang vitality)3. How did the original music of Arirang, as a voluminous "homonymy ballad group", serve as an impetus for the forming of the Arirang phenomenon?4. The Arirang phenomenon's shaping and development.The author researched and collected works on related study papers, master-pieces, and documentary materials in the three locations (South Korea, North Korea and Chinese Yanbian Area). The research includes image and audio materials and even a complete on-site collection of works in the Yanbian area. This on-site collection allowed the author to thoroughly get acquainted with Arirang related studies and the current research situation and consequently allowed her to fill in the un-touched quarters and incomplete parts based on previous scholarship. For the first time, the author uses the three locations (South Korea, North Korea and Chinese Yanbian Area) as research background, summarizes Arirang history (un-touched before), and proposes a new partition manner which differs from Korea scholars—namely, the author introduces a new partition of the historical period as explained in the new "three location independently development" history period.
