Yu Hua is one of the few contemporary writers whose works are considered classical when they are still alive. In his novels, Yu Hua draws the existence state and spiritual circumstances of contemporary people deeply and expresses his own attempt to find a way for people's spiritual redemption. Yu Hua's novels are also tracks of his spiritual exploration. Therefore, roam consciousness is a obvious clue like a red line straight in his writing of novels. This paper first explores the possible reasons for Yu Hua's roam consciousness from two aspects: historical growing memory and human relation experience in his life. Then, in connection with text of Yu Hua's novels in the pre-1990s, the paper analyses his spiritual roam as two forms: one is ignorant"pursuing"after experience of the surviving condition, the other is revolted"escape"under the surviving predicament. In the post-1990s which is known as the transition of Yu Hua's writing, as a serious spiritual seeker, Yu Hua didn't find a place to perch his vagrant spirit. However, with the usage of the even more complicate text in his novel, Yu Hua expresses his multiple ponderation on living circumstances of contemporary people, which also indices the promotion of roam consciousness in his writing.
