Refinement is an important aesthetic taste in Chinese culture. Compare with popularity, refinement often means legitimacy and noble. In social convention, people are used to call the highbrow culture as refined culture, and call the demotic culture as popular culture. Along with the change of age, the concept of refinement also changes constantly, just like the fashion. It seems that people can't consider and study the change of refinement further. In fact, as aesthetic taste, refinement and popularity can not be differentiated simply and definitely. However, the change of the aesthetic taste is not happen by accident at all, and it results from anfractuous factors from history, culture and society. Maybe, some reasons for the change of refinement and popularity can be found by researching the concept of refinement,Based on analysis of the concept of refinement , this article studies the Kunqu opera named "Ancestor of all opera in China" and researches some refined factors in it. The thesis is composed of four parts, namely, introduction, chapter one, the origin of the concept of refinement, chapter two, analysis of refinement in Kunqu opera, chapter four, conclusion.The history of Kunqu opera is introduced simply in the introduction. The first chapter, which is divided into four sections, is a research on views of traditional standpoints about refinement.
