Human beings are always motivated in their behaviours, and so are English learners. Motivation, classified as integrative motivation, instrumental motivation, etc, have a great impact on the learning of a target language. To explore to some extent motivation, it is necessary to have a look at curriculum first.Compared with traditional curriculum, learner-centered curriculum in which needs analysis is considered to be the prerequisite of any course design takes many advantages and gains popularity nowadays. The teaching methodology and evaluation in accordance with learners are helpful to improve their motivation level. The present research is done in the context of Linhai Secondary Vocational and Technical School (LSVTL). As is known, the majority of vocational students show no interest in learning English, which bothers English teachers greatly. Based on the theories of"Motivation, the key to learning"and"Learner-centered curriculum, which can better motivate students", it is necessary to do research into the learners'motivation and present English curriculum in LSVTL.In this thesis, both qualitative research and quantitative research are applied to analyzing the data from the questionnaires and interviews. The results are found out that the students'low level in motivation has much to do with the inappropriateness of current curriculum. Therefore, the conclusion is drawn that innovation of curriculum should be made to efficiently motivate learners. Some implications have been given on how to design a learner-centered curriculum. Above all, needs analysis should be done to meet individual needs of boy students and girl students. Some suggestions that derive from the needs analysis are also presented, such as the establishment of a self-study center, development of own teaching materials, implementation of task-based language teaching and formative evaluation. Teacher, implementers of the curriculum, should also develop themselves in curriculum design and other respects of teaching.
