In translation process, elements of translation interact with one another. Objective and effective standard to evaluate a translation should take the reader's response into consideration. Although reader's response has been emphasized by many theorists, research on reader's response was unfortunately confined to literary translation. The study of reader's response in legal translation is of great theoretical and practical significance. As a means of legal communication, legal translation is conducted in the frameworks of language and law. One of the differences between legal translation and general translation is that legal translation lays more emphasis on the response of its receptors. Legal translation, by nature, is the communication in legal mechanism. It is affected by not only the languages but also the legal systems and legal mechanism. Legal equivalence or legal effect equivalence should be the principle of legal translation. Legal acts attach great importance to legal effect, and accordingly, legal communications stress the participants' or readers' response. Failure to achieve the same understanding or response will affect the validity of the legal acts. So, compared with that in general translation, reader's response in legal translation wants greater effort on the part of the translator and is of greater value and use.
