Since the beginning of the nineteen-nineties, HVTE (Higher Vocational Technical Education) has developed at a rapid rate. It is playing an increasing role in improving the education quality of millions of Chinese people. The objective for HVTE is to train practical talents in production, technology, service, management, etc.Responding to the objective, HVTE English teaching, a significant part of HVTE in China, aims at overall proficiency and does stress the importance of communicative competence. However, there has bitter contradiction between the objective and the present approaches with the characteristics of teacher-centered, examination-oriented, grammar-and-vocabulary-based English class.In order to improve the present situation of HVTE English teaching, more and more English teachers have been engaged in or trying the practice and research of task-based learning (TBL), which combines the best insights from communicative language teaching with a systematic focus on language form. The real application of task-based approach in Chinese English teaching, however, does not seem to go as practitioners'expectation. Some problems from TBA classes are preventing many English teachers from applying this innovative teaching mode. Therefore, this paper is intended to explore an effective and feasible model in task-based language pedagogy and how to implement it correctly to achieve best results, especially in HVTE non-major English classrooms, so as to improve the quality of Vocational College English Teaching and Learning and realize the objective of HVTE.The relevant researches and theories of HVTE English teaching will be introduced in Chapter One. By introducing these, this part points out that task-based approach should be advocated in HVTE English teaching and in the end gives the focus of the study. In Chapter two, detailed theoretical analysis of task and task-based approach is given in order to interpret the feasibility of TBA use in language teaching and learning theoretically.
