As the old saying goes: "Give a man a fish and he eats for a day, teach him how to fish and he eats for a lifetime." The study of learning strategy has been a hot topic in both the linguistics field and education field. There are a lot of researches about language teaching and learning strategies, but most of them are comparatively stereotyped. And most of them aimed at the college students; few of them targeted on middle school students, let alone compare the both. Here the author makes a comparison of the learning strategies employed by middle school students and university students to find out the differences and similarities between them.The researcher aims to explore what are the strategies frequently used by the students, what are the differences between effective and ineffective learners, and further what cause the result. The author did quantitative research and case studies in detail, then thoroughly analyzed the reasons (differences or similarities) one by one. Hence the author can explore some useful findings to improve her teaching practice. According to the research results, we EFL (English as a foreign language) teachers can help bridge the gap between the two levels of students' English learning and provide some practical implications in middle schools and university language learning and teaching.
