With the rapid development of society, economy, science and technology, the Internet and multi-media are widely used in teaching. This leads to great change in the models of teaching and learning. The National Ministry of Education issued College English Course Teaching Requirements (referred to college English in the following) in 2004. It is clearly pointed out that"the new teaching structure should regard modern information technology as supported point, especially the Internet technology which makes English develop towards individual study and active study that is not limited by time and place."At present, autonomous learning in college English has already become an important objective of the reform of college English teaching under the Internet environment.Autonomous learning in college English under the Internet environment is the process that students carry out studying, drilling, exchanging and applying independently concerned with relevant English materials and with the guidance of the teacher, and then they construct knowledge and skills actively. In the process, the students, according to their own demands, use all kinds of effective information provided by the Internet to study and exchange in the teaching platform and apply language flexibly and independently in the fictitious communicated environment. At last students achieve the goal of constructing the ability of autonomous learning and improve study efficiency.This thesis distinguishes the necessity and realistic meaning of autonomous learning based on the state of analyzing and researching autonomous learning at home and abroad under the Internet environment. Based on the theory of constructivism and information transmission, it explores design plan, study mode and evaluation method of college English autonomous learning combined with teaching practice. The practice result makes clear: (1) Students generally maintain autonomous learning mode under the Internet condition. They feel that the study has more pertinence, initiative and achievement; (2)The Internet teaching can integrate the teaching resource effectively and optimize the teaching process; (3) The Internet teaching meets the needs of college English teaching development; (4) Autonomous learning under the Internet environment is favourable to foster the students'comprehensive ability and quality. Meanwhile, the problems are manifested in the teaching practice, which is teachers and students'skill and method of using Internet resource should be improved, the Internet conditions are needed to make perfect further and students'self-control ability isn't enough, etc.Autonomous learning under the Internet environment is a type of mode that we carry out teaching activities of college English. It is a comparatively stable teaching framework and procedure established on the basis of constructivism. It puts teaching theory into reality. At the same time it faces and directs teaching practice. It builds the bridge between theory and practice. What the thesis explores only is the own autonomous learning under the Internet environment. It tried to offer the referenced suggestion and thought with a case combined theory with practice.
