Composed of two sections, this paper presents a study about the comprehensive quality of the singer from varied perspectives. In the first section, there is a description of the basic structure and requirements of the singer. Based on the theoretical framework of the American expert N.J. Price's theory of "minor subject and major subject", this section proposes a "T" Structure of knowledge of the singer's comprehensive quality. The point is argued with the theories from the arts, psychology, sociology and especially singing. The author believes that good comprehensive quality of the singer is of vital importance in perfecting his or her singing performance; the improvement of the singer's comprehensive quality relies on professional skills, physical and psychological qualities demanded by singing, and social and cultural knowledge required in revealing human inner world. Such knowledge can be accomplished under the guide of "T" Structure theory. The second section stresses the training methods in cultivating the singer's comprehensive quality. Based on education and the theories about subjects, starting from the views of cognitive science, this part puts forward the training of the singer's two understanding processes of arts. Finally, the author suggests that the effect of training of the singer's comprehensive quality should be tested in his or her actual singing performance. There are two breakthroughs in the present study. One is adopting the latest "T" Structure theory to meet the needs of the singer in comprehensive qualityand in the methods of knowledge acquiring. The other is adopting varied theories to explore the approaches in the cultivation of the singer's comprehensive quality. With the effect of training being tested in actual performance, the theory and the practice are well connected.
