| Amy Tan is a famous Chinese American woman writer. Her first novel The Joy Luck Club (1989) received an immediate success after its publication and won the wide acclaim from both readers and critics. This thesis attempts to make a feminist study of The Joy Luck Club with the focus on the subversion and demolishment of patriarchal culture. It includes three chapters. Chapter 1 is a brief introduction to the Amy Tan, her major works and literary position, her The Joy Luck Club, as well as the feminist theory. Chapter 2 analyses the theme of the subversion and demolishment in detail from the perspectives of the structure of the novel, the narrative strategy of the novel, the author's criticism to sexism, mothers' courage to break silence, and their rebellion by writing. In the light of above analysis, the author has come to the conclusion of this study in Chapter 3, that is, through revealing Chinese American women's authentic lives, Amy Tan expressed her feminist concerns and has made great contribution to feminist literature and Chinese American literature. The study of this issue may offer a new perspective to the study of Amy Tan and other Chinese American writers. |
