Charles Dickens (1812-1870) is one of the most outstanding English writers in the nineteenth century. His works enjoy great popularity among people and can stand the test of time. Even in our present 21st century, his works are still widely read, continuously translated into many languages and adapted into films and TV play series. Dickens'vivid description creates many lifelike characters, which impress the readers deeply in their memory after reading.Among them the characters of children play the mostly important role in Dickens'art gallery. In the history of world literature, Dickens is the first one who threw tremendous energy into his creations of children. Reflecting life through children's angle of view is a main characteristic of Dickens'art of novels. Deserted children are very common in Dickens'novels, such as Oliver Twist in Oliver Twist, Florence and Paul in Dombey and Son, David Copperfield in David Copperfield, Pip in Great Expectations.It is important to point out that the creation of deserted children has a close relationship with Dickens'personal background especially his childhood experience. Through the analyses of the images of deserted children in Charles Dickens'major novels, we can observe the way of maturity of his characterization, his art techniques and his view of education...
