In this thesis, post-modernity is a category of culture and aesthetics, referring to the aesthetic post-modernity opposite in since 1960's post-modernist culture and arts. The thesis is the research object with novels that 2003 Nobel prize for literature and arts' winner, South African writer database slice, putting forward the database to slice the empress post-modernity that the novels' feature of post-modernity. It explores the causes for the post-modernity through several facets as follows: Coetzee's identity as a descendant of the Dutch colonist in South Africa, his special history of life, the role of a western intellect of the age and the influence of the western culture and literature. By studying Coetzee's fictions under the category of post-modernity,we no longer limit dealing with Coetzee's fictions on only political complexion and anti-apartheid,. It can open a new window for a better understanding of Coetzee's fiction's artistic values, the age's characteristics and his status in contemporary writing.The thesis is divided into four parts. The first part, analyzing subversivation in Coetzee's fictions for the concepts of truth of the traditional novels and history from novel and history. The second part lays the emphasis on expatiating the feature of deconstruction for center and attentions on marginals. This feature informs mainly in two aspects: depicting the marginals' life and portraying such a kind of characters who lack of traditional heroic qualities. The third part, proceeding from stories, meaning and style,analyzing the uncertainty in Coetzee's fictions. The forth part, discusses the courses of forming the post-modernity in Coetzee' fictions from culture and identity.
