The latter half of the twentieth century, especially the 1980s and 1990s saw the transition from overseas Chinese literature to ethnic Chinese group literature in Indonesia. The transition was not a one-way one and covered a considerable long period, during which the above two types of literature interacted and overlapped each other deeply. It is this point of views that drives the author of this dissertation to analyze how Huang Dongping, who has been writing under such circumstance, stuck to the overseas Chinese literature writing style and the psychological feelings as an overseas Chinese for his adherence. The dissertation also takes Huang Dongping's writing as an example to illustrate the complexity the transition process was subjected to.The dissertation first of all, proves Huang Dongping to an adherent of overseas Chinese literature writing from Huang's self-identity and literature concepts. The author then illustrates Huang's feelings of adherence and new characteristics reflected in his writing in three aspects.The first aspect illustrated in chapter two, concludes that Huang's works mainly tell us the evolution of the mind state of the overseas Chinese, who were subjected to twists and turns in the process of emigration, but never abandoned the Chinese culture.In other words, Huang tries to show overseas Chinese's adherence to identity that they are all Chinese and helplessness for that efforts. The second aspect, namely the third chapter holds that Huang, as a writer under the transitional environment tries to outline a period of overseas Chinese history in his works, in virtue of which he makes his efforts to find out and ascend the roots of ethnic Chinese groups.
