In the past a few dozen years from the 1960's to the beginning of the 21st century, humankind had deeply felt the historical vicissitudes of the presenting way of the culture. The writing culture, which once had tyrannized over the world for certain centuries, had been sliding from the center to the margin, and the vigorous development of"the visual culture"instead.This thesis is composed of four chapters. With the Baudrillard's concept of"the information implosion", the first chapter surveys"the spectacle society"and the"the conclusion of artistic end", the former transformed from the writing-leading society while the later is flooding in the literary arena nowadays. At the beginning of the 20th century, when the sound united with movie, people once took it for granted that the movie can possibly take for other arts, hence literature will end. But the fact is the movie has unceasingly closed up to the literature. In order to make dialogue prominent, Sound film could not but depend on the literature which showed as a language art. Since 1950s, television had come into being and popularized day by day, then the recording tape became prevalent. But none of these could squeeze the literature out. So, we can say that the development of commercial economy and the enhancement of material life of the whole society may not necessarily mean the decline on literature.The second chapter, from the visual esthetics angle, probes the impact that the visual culture and the expense society have made to the literature. Truly, the screen media has greatly attacked the esthetic experience of literature. Now the proportion of reading the classic has been decreasing, at the same time,"the fast-food"phenomenon of popular literature is nibbling away at the field. This kind of change in reading structure made some"classic"be absorbed and utilized by movie or television. For example, some"classic"revived on the screen, including myth fable, fairy tale story and play etc, Part of which seem like"post-modernist". In view of the phenomenon that literature seeps into other artistic fields, it would be better to say the literature expands its domains and the modern esthetic experience extends, than to say the literature has...
