Study On Chinese Verb-copying Supplementary Complex-sentence

The "no-marked" complex-sentence is very important and very common type of sentence in the modern Chinese. But for a long time, our study on it is not very thorough, and not very comprehensive enough. This paper focuses on one of the "no-marked" complex-sentence----Chinese verb-copying supplementary complex-sentence. The so-called "Chinese verb-copying supplementary complex-sentence" refers to the complex-sentence the former clause of which states a fact, the latter clause of which supplements and explains the fact stated in the preceding clause, and the two clauses are linked closely by the same verb element.We search the entire examples of Chinese verb-copying supplementary complex-sentence in the Chinese language material database developed by Beijing University, and analyze, describe and explain them. We are guided by the macro-theory of researches in Chinese grammar, focus on the three dimensional grammar analyses, and utilize the cognitive theory, to study on a multi-directional, multi-level inspection.In the introduction, we define the object of the study, and analyze the status and problems of the research. Finally the paper presents the writing methods and resources of the research.In the text, firstly we make a detailed inspection of the features of the complex-sentence from the syntax, semantics and pragmatics dimensions. From the syntax perspective, the principal clause of Chinese verb-copying supplementary complex-sentence is in the form of complex predicate, and the subordinate clause duplicates or duplicates partly the core predicate verb of the sentence, adds structural particle- "de", and then brings the complement. Here we focus on the category of the verb which is supplemented by the subordinate clause in the actual content. Overall, these verbs have characteristics which can be perceived. The principal clause of Chinese verb-copying supplementary complex-sentence is more realistic sentence. we divide the model of the principal clause of the complex-sentence into three categories: static, process, and change by the use of [±static][±continued]----two distinguishable characters. The subordinate clause of the complex-sentence mainly expresses result, tense and degree----three grammar significances. In the semantic level, we focus on the inspection of the deep semantic relations and semantic sentence structure model of the complex-sentence. Chinese verb-copying supplementary complex-sentence have two relationships----resultive relationship and non-resultive-relationship---- in a deeper meaning, which constitute two different semantic structures with different semantic relations. In the pragmatics level, we find that the principal clause of the complex-sentence is objective presentation of an incident, and the subordinate clause of the complex-sentence is used to express the subjective evaluation of the writers and talkers. And further, the paper shows different features, which these complex-sentence present because of different semantic relations in the content. The article also notes the cognitive features of the complex-sentence. We think that the structure of the complex-sentence resembles the cognitive structure of the man, and reflect the "process-perceive\ response" cognitive features in the Chinese society.On the basis of previous discussions, the article inspects the generated reasons of Chinese verb-copying supplementary complex-sentence. With the help of the generation mechanisms from the verb-copying sentence, we try to explain the sentence generated from the syntax level, and then inspect reasons of the generation of the sentence from the cognitive, and discuss the micro-established constraints which restrain the generation of the sentence.In conclusion, the study on this subject does the summary, expounds the meaning and value of this kind of research, points out some questions storing in, and has looked forward to working up the future research.
