Analysis Of CE Vocabulary In Comparison With The CET-4 Vocabulary

Nowadays lexical study plays a prominent role in the second language acquisition and teaching. Since the international clothing industry is undergoing fast development. Clothing English has aroused great attention. However, there is little research on the analysis of CE vocabulary in comparison withCET-4 vocabulary. This paper adopts the corpus-based method to make the qualitative and quantitative analysis of CE vocabulary in comparison withCET-4 vocabulary based on my self-built one-million-word Clothing English corpus with the help of Microsoft Visual FoxPro programmes and SPSS software. The major research questions are the following:(1)The vocabulary size in a one-million-word Clothing English corpus and CE words.(2) Words in Both CET-4 Vocabulary and CE Vocabulary.(3) CET-4-Only Vocabulary and CE-Only Vocabulary .(4) CET-4 Types Coverage in CE Vocabulary and CET-4 Tokens Coverage in CE Corpus (5)The high and low frequency words in the CE corpus.(6)Hapax Legomena in CE , the coverage rate of CE hapax legomenon in CE vocabula ry and CE Vocabulary Growth Rate .(7) Lexical features of CE vocabulary.(8) Proposing a supplementary CE word list.The results show that Clothing English vocabulary size is 13672, the coverage rate of the CET-4 vocabulary in CE vocabulary is 20.56% and the CET-4 vocabulary cannot cover the CE vocabulary. The CET-4 vocabulary is essential to CE reading comprehension, but far from enough to reach the 95% percent coverage. And the shared words are 2812 which are core vocabulary that is a foundation of both Clothing English and College English. The supplementary CE word list can increase the coverage rate. The CE-only vocabulary is seldom used in College English due to its register. And CE vocabulary which has a lot of abbreviations, numbers and so on has the characteristics of EST.
