A Study On The Relationship Between The Gong And Drum Spot And The Performance In Puxian Opera

From a perspective of the gong and drum drop as well as the performance in Puxian Opera (an opera popular in Putian and Xianyou area in Fujian Province), this article tries to break through the study limitation of the artistic element classification of Puxian Opera. Based on field investigation, combined with literatures, interviews and demonstrations, it studies the relationship between the gong and drum drop and the performance in Puxian Opera. The whole article is divided into 4 parts:In the first part, the audio-visual materials and the literatures of Puxian Opera are collected and arranged, by doing so the gong and drum functioning pattern and the Puxian Opera performance feature are extracted and presented in detail respectively, which makes the pattern element for the case study of the relationship between the gong and drum drop and the performance in Puxian Opera.In the second part, some traditional highlights of Puxian Opera such as Killing Dog, Zhu Chaolian, and Three Whips Beat Back Two Maces are fragmentally analyzed, and the relationship between the gong and drum drop and the performance in Puxian Opera is illustrated from three aspects.In the third part, based on the analysis of the relationship, the author puts forward a basic way to handle it.In the fourth part, referring to how Chinese operas come into being, the author introduces the background and cause of the correlating between the gongand drum drop and the performance in Puxian Opera.After the elaboration in the four parts mentioned above, a conclusion can be made that the gong and drum drop and the performing pattern are two important elements in Puxian Opera, there being inalienable intrinsic relations. To handle successfully the relationship between the gong and drum drop and the performance in Puxian Opera, a performer should master three basic methods — to experience profoundly, command the program, and be good at comparison. It is also clear that there is historic background and cause for the correlation of the two. So we should try to keep its artistic peculiarity when we save Puxian Opera, even we can do good to it when we handle the relationship properly.
