This paper will focus on the study of Tianhan's early drama inditement and translation from an integrated perspective. Based on a well-knit collection and trimming of overrelative literatures, it explores some blind spots in Tianhan's study by the comparison of Japanese elements in his early dramas so as to map out his early style and to deeper the whole study of his drama production and his values. The paper is dedicated to reducing Tianhan back to the society he lived, which breaks the longtime study schema with perspective only on his works, a study not based on subjective assumption but" taking Tianhan back to his time". Through the study on early Japan elements in Tianhan's works , his drama translation and introduction, his unique view on drama esthetics, the paper probes the influence of his drama translation on modern drama, and concludes his valuable experience on today's drama translation and introduction. Thus the paper outlines itself as followed to analyse the Japanese influence.The introduction elaborates the new features and imports in Tianhan study to certify the significance of such a study.Chapter one is about the societal enviroment when Tianhan's early dramas were produced. It probes the Japanese elements which influence Tian's early drama view by analysis of the social development when he was a sudent there. Chapter two is about the connections between Tianhan and Japanese writers, and their delicate influence on Tianhan's creation. It discusses the absorption and sublimation of foreign artistic techniques in his early drama through cases studyof 厨川白村 and 佐藤春夫. Analysis on his formation of romantism and his shift to realism further clarifies the source and implicaion of the unique esthetics in his early production.Chapter three deals with Tianhan's shift from absorbing foreign artistic skills to forming his own style, explains his contribution to moderm drama from poetic, musical and legendary aspects, and discusses its realistic importance and effect on the establishment and development of China's modern drama.The conclusion proposes some domains which are worth further exploration.The appendix includes Tianhan's life and art events during his time in Japan in order to demonstrate Japan effect on his early creation.
