From A Hero To A Person

Zhang Cheng-zhi published his The history of soul in 1991; a year later, Deng Xiao-ping traveled to south China to claim a new economy-centered time; another year later, some cultural scholars issued a Discussion on Humanity and Mind. Faced with the market economy which is controlled by capital logic, people in discussion thought a remind of realism in China's revolution is necessary, while it needs a solid reconsideration to avoid its negative parts.However, as a former Red-Guard in China's Cultural Revolution, Zhang Cheng-zhi resorts to his old realism to criticize contemporary China's modernism construction. As a result, he has to have converted to a traditional religion party to hold it. This deed, however, showed that he has lost his belief in self as a strong cultural criticism subject.So we think only through a human-centered, human-motivated criticism subject can we develop an effective kind of criticism against the defects in modern society. We can find or activate such subjects in the underprivileged, who are hurt by the new system and are short of most sorts of resources.We shall have to establish this kind of subject on a deep understanding in Modern Chinese history, in China's Revolution, including the Cultural Revolution. And after that, we shall go into the deep hearts of modern world, especially the modern city, to start our critical construction for the new world.
