| ZhaoshuTun, say, the Tale of Peacock Princess, is culturally a pearl in Dai people's literature in China. This story has experienced its three major developmental periods: 1) Before 1949(before the founding of PRC). Peacock Princess legend was a story most popular with Dai People and had been spread orally by generations. 2) After 1949 (mainly from 1950s to 1970s). This period has witnessed a great change in the tale of Peacock Princess. This story was recollected, transcribed and finally adapted from oral Dai language to Han language in written form. The most distinctive works in this period came to Lady Peacock by Guqing and the ballad Peacock by Baihua. As a result, Dai people's literature entered a new era — a combination into 20th Chinese literature, characterized by Han language's script of the Tale of Peacock Princess. 3) Late 20th century. In this period, this story was greatly adapted to film and TV works, and even was displayed by dances..This essay does aim to analyze before and after 1949 the changes of Peacock Princess, the most popular legend among Dai people, and conclude its vital role in contemporary Chinese literature when it has been interpreted to Han language in various formation as novels, dances and movies.
