The aim of learning a language is to comprehend it and use it. The usage and comprehension of a language is concerned with language. Communication behavior is not simply a decoding process of language. The theory of context equips us with a base to study how to participate in communication and take the advantage of context. Factors of contexts function in explanation, affirmation, rectification and replenishment. It requires us to reason and deduce scant information in the communication process so as to catch the conversational implicitness and polish the efficient communications. To communicate effectively, we should not only master grammar and lexicon, but also the rules of speaking. That is, we should know when it is appropriate to open a conversation and how, what topics are appropriate to particular speech events, which forms of address are to be used to whom and in which situations, and how such speech acts as greetings, compliments, apologies, invitations and complaints are to be given, interpreted and responded to.The aim of language learning is the ability to perform a repertoire of speech acts so as to take part in speech events. This is another way of saying that learning language is learning to perform certain functions. Communicative competence has four components: possibility - the ability to produce grammatical sentences; feasibility -the ability to produce sentences which can be decoded by human brain; appropriateness - the ability to use correct forms of language in a specific socio-cultural context; performance - the fact that the utterance is completed. Language is not isolated, but depends on certain setting, namely, context. The development of communicative competence in terms of context is twofold: the development of the ability to recognize the context properly so as to comprehend the utterance effectively, and the development of the ability to construct a favorable context so as to express effectively. All of these demand wonderful language competence to be used flexibly in certain context.
