The Modality Variation Of Comedy

Compared with the study of tragedy, there are a lot of deficiencies in the study of comedy. The present comedy theory can't solve many problems raised by the ever-developing comedy works. This thesis tries to make some contribution in this field by sorting out the modality variation of comedy. Firstly, this thesis analyzes the value of comedy, which did not obtain enough attention before. Secondly, the modality variation of comedy is studied in the traditional, modern and postmodern contexts respectively. Thus the characteristics during relevant times can be shown to us. Finally, this thesis argues that although the deconstruction is prevailing during postmodern times, some great comedy works still retain and reflect earnest concern for life and sincere humanistic care, which means that human's pursuit of the meaning of life will never die.
