The rapid development of science and technology as well as the increasing international communication between different countries make intercultural communication possible and necessary. It is generally accepted that the main target of foreign language learning is no longer to imitate a standardized model of native speaker but to develop the learners' intercultural communicative competence. In the new century, China is in desperate need of people who are familiar with foreign culture and capable of communicating appropriately in intercultural communication, which is a new challenge in FLT. As an important place cultivating practical and vocation-oriented talents, English departments of vocational colleges should not only develop basic English skills of students, but also put emphasis on improving their intercultural communicative competence.Based on the inseparable nature of the relationship between language and culture, the talent training objectives and the characteristics of the English majors of VC, this paper makes the necessity of multi-culture teaching in EMCT of VC clear, and explores the feasible means to conduct multi-culture in EMCT of VC. This paper makes a literature review of relevant theories and researches in this field. An investigation of several major kinds of textbooks used by English majors of VC in Hefei is made to find whether they can provide enough information on multi-culture. A survey of current situation of culture and multi-culture teaching in EMCT of VC is conducted among teachers and English majors from several vocational colleges in Hefei by means of questionnaires. Based on the analysis of the survey, some prerequisites of successful multi-culture teaching in EMCT of VC are explored.Multi-culture teaching in the English language teaching is a relatively new concept. The phrase "multi-culture" in this thesis, by its very nature, is culture, but its meaning has been broadened: it is not merely the cultures of those English speaking countries; it is such a culture that is composed of different cultures and it should be shared by people form different cultural background who use English as the international language to conduct intercultural communication. Cultural pluralism and difference, as well as the diversified nature of intercultural communication make multi-cultural awareness a necessity in foreign language teaching. The study of multi-culture broadens people's concept of cultural elements in the English language teaching. In the context of global village and world Englishes, the study of multi-culture teaching in EMCT of VC has some practical significance in using English to fulfill the aim of intercultural communication.
