China's further reform and opening up, rapid development of communication technology, together with globalization, also offer non-English majors more and more chances to communicate with native English speakers directly or indirectly. However, non-English majors, due to various factors, are low in intercultural communicative competence, though they have learned English for quite a few years. Now many linguists and scholars put much emphasis on culture teaching during the language teaching and culture teaching has become an indispensable part of language teaching. As vocational colleges grow rapidly in China, there is a big increase in the number of vocational college students. Naturally, it is necessary and meaningful to study the communicative competence of vocational college students. The author discovers that English teachers at vocational haven't paid enough attention to improving the students' intercultural communicative competence through English language teaching and the students are short of pragmatic awareness and knowledge. Therefore, the students are still poor in the intercultural communicative competence.Based on the investigation, some constructive suggestions on how to develop the students' intercultural communicative competence have been given in the thesis.
