Chinese and Japanese pattern art is the most important and richest inheritance in the Oriental culture, simultaneously also is the Eastern civilization model symbol. China and Japan, both countries for the Eastern culture representative, their traditional patterns have the Eastern national characteristic. The Chinese nation took the birthplace of the Eastern culture. Its traditional pattern is processed for several millennium and condensed the bright Chinese nation characteristic and the deep Chinese culture connotation, which has profound influenced the culture of other Eastern country and the nationality.Japanese nationality pattern, with the homologous oriental culture of Chinese nation, possess own characteristic in the pattern long-term localization process, because it both adopted the abundant china pattern content and melted the region local conditions and social customs and own nationality to the beautiful understanding into pattern designing. This paper mainly explores the latent regularity of the development of patterns art through analyzing the comparability and difference of Chinese and Japanese tradition patterns,(here to call its overlapping and balanced of Chinese and Japanese patterns), in the aspect of modeling, composition, expression means, tinting of from the angle of design art. It is better to serve for the modern patterns design.1. The overlapping of Chinese and Japanese tradition patterns. This overlapping mainly displays the content of the patterns performance, aspect, moral and symbol.(1) Mutual recognition of perfect artistic.The dragon pattern is a perfect traditional patter in China about 3000 years, regardless of its tint, the modeling and the manifestation. The Tang dynasty flower (Karabana), as well as Chinese flower, the hothouse flower called "center the national flower", is an imaging assembly of many plants flowers, which is also a classic pattern designing. Both of two patterns appear in the Japanese pattern design art.(2) Yearning for happy thing.In China and Japan, tradition patterns both included praying patterns and the auspicious omen patterns. Both traditional propitious patterns constituted using the auspicious birds and kind beasts, such as dragon, phoenix, lion, elephant, goldfish, mandarin duck, turtle, unicorn, and "the mandarin duck plays with water" patterns with being same idea in two countries, are the favorite traditional patterns in two nations.(3) Traditional patterns coming from common culture (Confucian culture).In China and Japan, people like using tradition grain type, the plum, the orchid, the bamboo, as a spirit carrier to exhibit the personality and ethical of man, because these patterns own certain characteristics exactly in agreement with some kind of personality spirit. 2. The balance of the Chinese and Japanese tradition patterns. The point of view is not rigorous that Chinese and Japanese tradition patterns are quite same or analogical in the aspect of art design. Carefully deliberating the Chinese and Japanese patterns, we could found the existence of certainly difference between the traditional patterns of the two countries.(1) The balance of artistic design.a. Mold: In China, the geometry patterns appear comparatively early, especially many kinds of line model. But there are a lot of curve modeling, appropriates "the pill" patterns in the Japanese tradition patterns. The Japanese tradition patterns are mostly exquisite, delicate and fine in the modeling, specializing in the small geometry patterns and the small bunch of pattern. The mold of the Chinese tradition patterns is full and has the overpowering vigor. For the Japanese tradition patterns its modeling often shows the fixed form.b. Manifestations: The Chinese tradition patterns have the characteristic of diverse and flexible. The representation of the Japanese tradition patterns perform more simplifies and abstract.c. Representation means: The representation of the Chinese tradition patterns is clear, whereas that of the Japanese traditional patterns is indistinct and performs the certain ornamental property.d. Tinting: The warm color, such as red, yellow and so on are primary tinct in the Chinese traditional patterns, but the tinting characteristic of the Japanese tradition is that neutral color with brilliance low, darkness, such as green, blue, blue, the purple, is the major color and intensely contrasting color only is used in the small area. The elegance, calmness and lustration are that the Japanese patterns exhibit the status of Japanese nation.e. Contents: The Chinese tradition patterns stresses to the psychic. Buddhism has greatly enriched the content of both countries patterns. The"flying sky"is a kind pattern combining the Buddhism and national culture. In addition, there is the"ba bao"pattern with the Buddhism color. The traditional jewelry patterns tinting the Buddhism color appeared in Japan. Through studying on the resemblance and balance in the China and Japan traditional patterns art, discovers the latent regularity during the development of patterns art. This kind of rule, namely the patterns design's inheritance and innovation, has an essential element, which is the national characteristic of patterns.The national characteristic of patterns will not only strongly impel the invention of patterns design but also become the inexhaustible artistic fountainhead of the patterns designing.
