Metaphor is a kind of common linguistic phenomenon. It is traditionally taken as a trope on which one thing is spoken of as if it were another thing, is a ubiquitous feature of natural language. The traditional theories view metaphor as a figure of speech with decorative function. Therefore, metaphor is recognized to lack scientific precision and objectivity and is historically avoided in scientific language. Different from the traditional ones, contemporary theories view metaphor as a way of recognizing the world or reshaping human experience. Thus, the existence of metaphor in abundance in scientific language finds its theoretical foundation. In this thesis, we analyze the two levels of metaphor—the lexical level and the grammatical level. From the analysis at the two levels, we can see the whole picture of metaphorical use in scientific communication and propagation. Moreover, we can have a deep reorganization of the function of metaphor in scientific communication and propagation. In the process of scientific communication and propagation, use the function of metaphor to establish a way that can make the scientific communication and propagation more deeply and widely. It can develop the scientific communication and propagation.
