As a very significant member of developed countries, Canada palys quite an important role in today's international affairs. Therefore, it is diplomatically not an independent country before Cold War. In other countries'view, Canada was nothing but a myrmidon of western countries, its role just switch from a Free State of Great Britain to a yesman of the United States. It is the time when Cold War broke out, did Canadian realize the essentiality of expressing themselves.During Cold War, the region of Asia and the Pacific provided a stage, a stage that fulled of dispute and controversy. On this stage, Canada finally finded its own position. This is exactly the place to indicate the unique character of the Canadian policy which aimed at the region of Asia and the Pacific. And this is also the key point of my paper. The first part of this dissertation is discussing the basic situation about Canadian policy which aimed at the region of Asia and the Pacific before Cold War. The truth is during that time Canada was not an independent country and had no ability to concern thing happened in that area. But as an ally of the United States, Canada involuntarily involved into the universal stratagem of the United States. Became one of the most important power in the region of Asia and the Pacific political structure. In the second part, we discussed that in order to chase its own interests, Canada adopted deterrent policy to restrict the United States during Korean War. From the"not involved"policy of King's administration to"the low-level involved"of St. Laurent's administration; from restraining the United States along to associate with Britain and other countries, Canada argued against the United States policy everywhere, everytime. Somehow Korean War showed out a way to improved Canadian foreign policy. In the third part, we discussed that Canada was so flabbiness as a peace-keeper. And so crag-fast as a go-between. Compared with Korean War, in Vietnam War, there had not much choice left for Canada. It could only listened to the United States. Do exactly what told to do. So,during this time, Canada got a big failure. But the lecture made Canada change their foreign policy, preclaimed to keep world peace. And expected to exert more independent effects. In the forth part, we discussed although there was so much trouble, Canada eventually admitted new China. Canada insisted that the best way to satisfy the interests of western countries, is to admit China. According with that proposition, Canada finally set up a normal relationship with China. In conclusion, although Canada didn't get rid of the control of the United States entirely, they still made a lot of decisions after their own interests, not just followed the United States. The Canadaian policy which aimed to the region of Asia and the Pacific was heading of a more independent, more self-detemine, and more far away from the United states way.
